Focus

Which way am I looking? Ahead or behind me…

Into our first month of the new year, many people are focused on their new resolutions, dreams and goals. They want to get more fit, lose weight, travel more or spend more time with family.

Do you have a resolution or focus for the new year?

One of the cool things about January is that it offers up the opportunity for us to refocus and find our center again. Sometimes, I really need that.

Recently, I felt like Holy Spirit was reminding me that my focus needs to be on God…. Not myself and not anyone else. Not work or anything I feel called to do.

So, I struggled with that for a minute: how do I get work done if I’m not focusing on work? Trust me when I say, I really need to be focused at work.

When I say struggled for a moment, I really mean I struggled for days. After a lot of prayer and a lot of journaling and a lot of quiet listening… I felt Holy Spirit show me that too often I’m depending on myself rather than Holy Spirit to get me through my workday. I’m hoping for others to change their behavior, instead of placing my hope in God who is more than capable of change.

A day after this revelation, my sister gently told me that my Hope needs to be in God and not in people as people will let us down, but God never will.

As the new year progresses, and we start transitioning into the next month, I want to offer a gleam of inspiration straight from the source. I want to share that nudge that Holy Spirit gave me with anyone else who is:

– hoping for someone else to change

who is depending on only themselves and their own strength to get the job done

who feels pulled in many different directions at once.

Instead of allowing all of my priorities to overwhelm me, Holy Spirit is offering to partner with me so that my focus, my hope, my trust, and my faith is centered on God. Holy Spirit is offering the same partnership with you too.

A prayer…

Father God, too often I lean on myself for strength and forget to open up to you as my source, for hope, strength, faith, energy, and trust. I choose, Father God to trust in you, to lean on you for all my understanding, to allow you to be my source of hope and faith to get me through every trial and every day. I choose a partner with Holy Spirit every day . Thank you for loving me on my easiest days and on my hardest days and all the days in between. In Jesus name, Amen. 🙏🏼
